Gambling - Basic Tips

Do Research
Invest the time and money to learn about the game(s) you plan to play. You can find information on the internet for free, or purchase a book. This is crucial especially if you’re going to play table games or video poker. Learning the basics will help you make your money last longer, and you may leave a winner!

Understanding the rules and the game before getting to Vegas will make your trip and playing experience more enjoyable. And remember, if you have any questions while playing table games, just ask the dealer. They will tell you how the house would play the hand or what the “correct” play is. Dealers make their money from tips, so it’s in their best interest to be nice and friendly.

Manage Your Money
One of the most important thing about gambling is money management. You really don’t want to be on your second day of your trip with no money left. If you were lucky enough bring you credit card or ATM, the amount you will pay for the surcharge fee is worse than what the casino's house edge is on most games.
A simple plan is to divide your money by the number of days of you are staying. Place each amount in an envelope and mark them day 1, day 2, etc. This will be your gambling budget for each day.

Betting Systems

There are many betting systems out there that claim will work. My theory on betting systems is if there was a system that actually worked, why would you want anyone to know about it. The more people that know and use it, the greater the chance casinos will catch on and possibly ban you. Kind of like how card counters are banned or asked to leave if they are suspected of counting cards. If I truly had a betting system that worked, I wouldn't waste my time writing about it, I would be living in Las Vegas and other places with casinos and be making millions and preparing for my retirement.

However, I do believe that winning and losing comes in streaks or cycles. What you want to do is capitalize on the winning streaks and minimize your bets on the negative or losing streaks. Granted, it is much easier said than done. I can't tell you when a streak is going to happen, just that it does happen and you have to be conscious of it.

It might look something like winning several hands in a row. At that point what you want to do is "press" or increase your bets. Start raising your bets in increments so that you win more and more after each win. At the same time you don't want to be too greedy and bet whatever you have in front of you. The reason being is that streaks inevitably ends and you're not going to know until it's over. How much you increase your bet will be based on how conservative or aggressive you are.

Likewise, when it seems that the dealer cannot lose, just keep the bets down, walk away and find another table to play at, or just take a break. This is Vegas and you will be able to find a table when you're ready to play again.
